In March of 2013 the Schatz Energy Research Center and the Redwood Coast Energy Authority (RCEA) completed a three-year renewable energy planning study called RePower Humboldt. The main objective of the RePower Humboldt study was to develop a strategic plan enabling Humboldt County to meet greater than 75 percent of its electricity needs and a substantial portion of its heating and transportation energy needs using local renewable resources. Key findings in the RePower Humboldt Strategic Plan (PDF; 5.7MB) include:
The RePower Humboldt study was a collaborative effort between SERC, RCEA, and the Pacific Gas and Electric Company. Principal funding came from the California Energy Commission, with match funding from each of the three participating organizations and the Headwaters Fund.
SERC and RCEA continue to work together in an effort to move the Repower Humboldt vision forward.
