The Stack-Outside-the-Box™, a small fuel cell power system on an open aluminumframework.

SERC has to date produced and delivered two of its Stack-Outside-the-Box™ (SOtB™) custom bench-top educational fuel cell systems to other educational institutions.

The first SOtB™ was built for Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts, where SERC alumna Denise McKay, now an assistant professor in the Picker Engineering Program at Smith, uses the device in her Engineering 390: Photovoltaic and Fuel Cell System Design class. The Picker Engineering Program is the nation’s first and only accredited engineering program for women.

In March 2011, SERC delivered its second SOtB™ to Southwestern Community College (SCC) in Sylva, North Carolina for use in SCC’s Electronics Engineering Technology program.

For more details on the SOtB™, see our page on educational equipment and curriculum.
