Schatz Energy Fellowship for Graduate Studies

The Schatz Energy Research Center (SERC) is pleased to offer the Schatz Energy Fellowship for graduate studies at Humboldt State University. Applicants for the Environmental Resources Engineering (ERE) and Energy, Environment, and Society (EES) options of the Environmental Systems Graduate Program who intend to focus on renewable energy or energy efficiency related work may be considered for the fellowship.

The fellowship provides $10,000 in support during the academic year to the selected student. The fellowship may be renewed once to cover a second year of graduate study. The fellow is expected to participate in research activities at SERC during the nine month academic year. The fellowship does not guarantee summer employment at SERC, although this is a possibility depending on the availability of funds to compensate this additional work, as well as the fellow’s skills and initiative.

Applicants for the Schatz Energy Fellowship should submit the following materials on or before February 15:

  1. A carefully written 500-word essay that describes your reasons for applying for the Schatz Energy Fellowship and the line of research or project work that you propose to pursue while studying at Humboldt State. You should also briefly discuss how your prior studies and work experience help to prepare you to engage in the proposed work.
  2. A completed application for admission to the EES or ERE graduate program (i.e., you must be an applicant to one of these programs to qualify and your application file must be completed by the February 15 deadline; note that you do not need to submit duplicate copies of the graduate program application materials to the Fellowship Review Committee to be considered for the fellowship).

Submit the application essay to:
